The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

One of the keys to success is to spend 15-30 minutes daily on self-education.  You can do this by reading or listening to audio books.  Do I do this every day?  Wellll…… I am working on it.  To be honest, I HATE reading.  I work from home and prefer the T.V. to be running with some non-educational show running all day in the background.  I kept being told that I could listen to audio books since I hate reading.  This is not for me either.  I know I could fit it in, I just don’t want to. Do I recommend this path for others?  NO WAY!  I am doing a great disservice to myself and my future by not doing this daily.  BUT, like I said, I am working on it.  I do not read every day.  I have started to read every few days.  When I finally do find a book I enjoy, I can’t put it down.  My most recent find is The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss.

The 4-Hour Workweek is such a FANTASTIC book.  I enjoyed it so much, I read half the book in one sitting.  I just could not put it down.  Timothy Ferriss teaches us how to do less work, in less time and gain better results towards achieving our dream life.

The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

In The 4-Hour WorkweekTimothy Ferris talks about many concepts.  A few that I really enjoyed were:

  • The Parkinson’s Law (This Law states that a task will increase in importance and complexity in relation to the time in which we allotted for it to be completed.)
  • The 80/20 Rule (This is the rule that says to shorten the work time to limit tasks to only the important. Mr. Ferriss asks the question, “What is 20% of sources causing 80% of my problems and What is 20% of sources that are resulting in 80% of my happiness?”)
  • Dreamlining (Dreamlining is hard but very fun. This is where you will create two timeline for your dreams.)

The 4-Hour Workweek is an excellent book and I HIGHLY recommend reading it. Timothy Ferriss also wrote several other books including The 4-Hour Body and The 4-Hour Chef.  These are next on my list.  Additional, Mr. Ferriss has a website that serves as a great resource, http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/.  This website is where you can find many resources that Mr. Ferriss talks about in the book.
